The Food and Drug Administration has recalled brands of pet food due to fears they have been contaminated with listeria and salmonella bacteria.
The Food and Drug Administration warns pet owners against feeding their cats and dogs products that are at risk for contamination with listeria and salmonella bacteria.
Two brands, Answers Pet Food and Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, released products that tested positive for the bacteria which could make animals sick. Pets could in turn pass the disease to their owners by kissing them, or by spreading their waste matter in a home. People can also contract infections by cleaning up after their dogs or cats.

The following products were available for sale at retail stores throughout the country and online.

The following products were mostly sold online through a subscription service.
Consumers are advised to throw away any of the pet food on the list within a secure container to avoid further contamination. Do not give the products away. Pet owners should also clean and disinfect surfaces that the food came in contact with.
