Queen Elizabeth II will be buried with two jewels: which ones?

Queen Elizabeth’s funeral is on Monday and royal experts predict that she will be buried with just two of her jewels that were special to the late monarch.

The burial of Elizabeth II will take place on Monday, September 19, in a private ceremony that will take place at Windsor Castle. The monarch will be buried next to her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Meanwhile, Her Majesty’s coffin remains in the Palace of Westminster, seat of the UK parliamentary chambers.

From the United Kingdom, Lisa Levison, head of communication for the Natural Diamond Council, which represents seven of the world’s leading diamond producers, explained to ‘Metro.co.uk’ that the sovereign will be buried with two jewels, a Welsh gold wedding ring and a pair of pearl earrings. “It’s unlikely that she’s wearing too much jewelry,” she said.

As for the ring, it was made with gold from the Clogau St David mine, which has been used to make wedding bands for the royal family since 1923. It was a gift from her parents George VI and Elizabeth and with which gave way to the tradition of making all rings with this metal for the British monarchy.

As for her enganement ring, it is set in platinum and featuring eleven natural diamonds, including a three-carat round solitaire diamond and five smaller stones set on each side. Her husband Philip participated closely in its design.

In relation to the engagement ring, it will probably be given to Princess Anne, the second of her children - and only woman - fruit of the marriage with Prince Philip, predicts Levison as it once belonged to Prince Philip’s mother Princess Alice of Battenberg. In this way, the ring would become part of the British Crown.

On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that Queen Elizabeth II had a private jewelry collection with more than 300 items, including 98 brooches, 46 necklaces, 15 rings, 14 watches, five pendants and 34 pairs of earrings . She held a special appreciation for all of them, especially her wedding ring. This was a secret that only she and The Duke of Edinburgh knew, and now, her daughter Princess Anne will also know it.

According to data from the Sunday Times, the fortune of the late queen is between 500 and 600 million pounds, the same amount in euros due to the parity of the currencies. On the other hand, the total value of the royal family is about 82.3 billion euros, of which 40.6 billion are for Elizabeth II, according to a study by Statista collected by El País.

Three countries banned at his funeral

Russia, Belarus and Myanmar have not been invited to attend the queen’s funeral, which will be held on Monday, September 19. The most obvious case is that of Russia, at war with Ukraine since last February. Although President Vladimir Putin sent condolences to the British Royal Family, the current conflict leaves him out of the funeral. The same reasoning applies to Belarus, for allying itself with Moscow in the conflict with neighboring Ukraine.
