Questions arise about Trump’s mental health after recent interviews and social media rants
President Donald Trump’s recent social media use, interviews, and statements have raised alarm bells about his mental health.

In recent months, President Trump has made statements and posted on social media that call into question his mental state. At 79 years old, his erratic responses and difficulty recalling facts have raised alarm bells.
Online commentators are also pointing to posts from the past two weeks, during which Israel and Iran were engaged in open conflict, with missiles flying in both directions. After publicly weighing his options and consulting with allies, President Trump decided to join Israel’s military effort by authorizing strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. He quickly declared the operation a success, though members of his own administration have downplayed the extent to which Iran’s nuclear program was actually set back.
Critics have zeroed in on a series of unusual posts the president made this morning on Truth Social, where he appeared to conduct diplomacy via social media. In one post, he urged the Israeli military to turn back planes that were reportedly en route to bomb Iran, citing what he described as a very minor violation of the ceasefire agreement he had seemingly imposed on both sides.
Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger also weighed in, highlighting a particularly strange post in which Trump claimed Israel was not conducting a bombing campaign but rather a “friendly plane wave?” Kinzinger, a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard, responded bluntly: “Wtf is a ‘friendly plane wave?’”
This guy is honestly so frigging dumb.

Other concerning statements from the president
On Saturday, May 31, a late-night post shared by the president on his Truth Social account promoted a fringe and bizarre theory that former president Joe Biden was executed in 2020 and replaced with a robotic clone. The post was quickly criticized, with some commentators arguing that if Joe Biden had promoted a post of that nature, his mental state would have been questioned across conservative media.
If Joe Biden posted something like this Hannity would be roused from his sleep to anchor special coverage. But Trump posts apeshit conspiracy theories and the mainstream press yawns. His craziness has been completely normalized. https://t.co/YOnZ1w7e5J

Other controversial statements
Trump’s contradictions during the interview with TIME magazine were not the only moments that called into question the president’s mental state.
Huppke points to a briefing with reporters during a flight on Air Force One. Trump was asked about an attack in Moscow that killed a Russian general. The president responded, “Who killed what?” He then asked, puzzled, “Where did it happen?” even though the reporter had mentioned it seconds earlier.
Another moment that calls into question his cognitive abilities occurred during an interview in the Oval Office, where the president accused the Maryland man who was deported ‘accidentally’ to El Salvador, of being a member of MS-13.
TRUMP: He had MS-13 on his knuckles, tattooed!

MORAN: That was photoshopped
TRUMP: Terry, they're giving you the big break of a lifetime. I picked you. But you're not being very nice. pic.twitter.com/NgCpEB8o1S
The president has claimed that Abrego had MS-13 gang tattoos and showed an allegedly altered photograph as proof. When questioned about the manipulated image, Trump refused to accept it.
For Rex Huppke, these are just a few examples of why President Trump is not well. “This man’s brain is full of spiders,” Huppke notes. “If we’re honest, this aging president barely makes sense.”
