Although more favorable results were expected for the Republicans in the midterm elections in the United States, Donald Trump has moved ahead by officially declaring his candidacy for president in 2024.

After months of anticipation, the official announcement came on Tuesday night, after Donald Trump had presented the necessary documents before the Federal Elections Commission, in which he declared himself a candidate for the presidency and established a new campaign committee.

Trump filed the federal documents ahead of a speech scheduled for Tuesday night where hundreds of his supporters gathered in the gold ballroom at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, becoming the first major contender to officially begin the process.“

In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said to a roaring applause.

In 2024 there could be a possible rematch between Trump and Democratic President Joe Biden, who, after Trump’s announcement, shared a video on his Twitter account about the former president’s failures during his tenure.

The caption of the video was “Donald Trump failed America,” aiming to attack the former president’s reaction to the results of the 2020 election.

Backing up President Biden’s sentiment was his former Press Secretary Jen Psaki, who warned Trump that if he was looking to avoid DOJ investigation by announcing his candidacy, it would not deter them.

“No one at DOJ watched that speech and ripper up all the work they have been pursuing,” tweeted Psaki.

As for the Republicans, Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake showed her support for former President Trump. “You have my full and complete endorsement,” she tweeted.

On the other hand, some media, such as NPR, tried to focus on the fact that Trump tried to annul the results of the 2020 presidential elections and inspired the attack on the Capitol.

Similarly journalist Dan Rather took a jab at the former president, saying, “When the first movie was really bad it rarely leads to a successful sequel.”

Unsurprisingly, many who attended the event live at Mar-a-Lago tweeted their support of Trump’s announcement.

I cannot express how HAPPY I am about President Trump running again. Donald Trump will be the 47th President of the United States of America!” actor and comedian Terrence K. Williams tweeted.

On the other hand, some users on Twitter pointed out that Trump cannot become president for leading an insurrection. “Donald Trump led an insurrection against the United States in violation of his oath to uphold the Constitution. He is permanently barred from holding any state or federal office under 14th Amendment, Section 3, attorney Tristan Snell shared.
