Relief checks in March 2023: What states will send payments, dates and amounts?

Some states are still sending out stimulus checks or tax refunds as relief from inflation. These are the states sending payments and the amounts in March.

Last year, inflation in the United States reached historic levels. Given the high prices, several entities approved the sending of stimulus checks or tax refunds as relief. Although inflation has fallen in recent months, the support continues. We share with you which states will send payments in March and what the amounts are.

Relief check in March 2023: states that will send payments and amounts

South Carolina

Taxpayers are eligible for a refund of up to $800. Payments began at the end of last year, but those who filed after 17 October but before February 15, 2023, will receive their refund by 31 March this year.

Idaho

Governor Brad Little authorized the remittance of tax refunds of $300 for individual filers and $600 for joint filers, or 10% of a taxpayer’s 2020 income tax, whichever is greater. The tax commission expects to finish sending out about 800,000 refunds totaling up to $500 million by the end of March of this year.

Maine

Maine is sending payments of $450 to residents to help cover heating costs. Checks will be sent to approximately 880,000 people. Winter Energy Relief payments began mailing in late January 2023. All payments are expected to be mailed by March 31.

Massachusetts

Taxpayers are eligible to receive a refund of approximately 14% of their state tax liability. People who filed their 2021 return before October 17 of last year received their refund in December. Taxpayers who filed after and up to September 15, 2023, will receive their payment one month after filing. Here more details.

New Mexico

In-state residents can still receive a refund of $500 for single filers and $1,000 for joint filers. Residents have until May 2023 to file their 2021 income tax return and qualify for a refund.

New Jersey

About 2 million New Jersey households are eligible for property tax refunds, thanks to Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR).

Homeowners making up to $150,000 will receive $1,500 in property tax refunds, while those making between $150,000 and $250,000 will receive $1,000. Tenants earning up to $150,000 will receive $450 checks. Refunds will arrive no later than May 2023.
