Singer Ricky Martin has denied accusations of abuse and incest lodged against him by a member of his family in Puerto Rico.

According to widespread reports, the claims against Martin, 50, relate to a seven-month affair with his 21-year-old nephew, who was allegedly the victim of physical and psychological attacks.

In Puerto Rico, which is an overseas territory of the United States, crimes relating to incest can lead to a prison sentence of up to 50 years.

Martin’s lawyer dismisses “disgusting” claims

Martin’s lawyer, Marty Singer, told Deadline: “Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges.

Ricky Martin has, of course, never been - and would never be - involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew. The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting.

“We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

Restraining order filed against Martin earlier in July

Two weeks ago, reports emerged that a domestic abuse restraining order had been filed against Martin in Puerto Rico, but there was no indication at the time that the petitioner was a family member.

According to court documents seen by the Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero, it is claimed that Martin refused to accept the end of the pair’s relationship two months ago.

“He [Martin] calls him [the petitioner] frequently,” the documents say, per El Vocero. “In addition, the petitioner has seen him loitering around his residence on at least 3 occasions. The petitioner fears for his safety.”

After news of the restraining order emerged, Martin - who is best known for his 1999 hit ‘Livin La Vida Loca’ - branded the allegations “completely false”.

A court hearing is reported to have been scheduled in Puerto Rico for 21 July, the day on which the restraining order expires.

Martin also facing court battle against ex-talent manager

Earlier this month, a $3m lawsuit was filed against Martin by his former talent manager, Rebecca Drucker, over unpaid commissions.

Drucker claims Martin “constantly mistreated, manipulated, and lied” to her while she was working for him, according to court documents viewed by Insider.
