According to an exclusive report by NBC, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, will announce his candidacy for the presidency of the United States for the 2024 elections in the company of magnate Elon Musk.
The announcement will be released on the night of Wednesday, May 24, 6:00 p.m. ET, through a discussion between the businessman and the Republican, held on Twitter Spaces, the audio chat tool of the famous blue bird platform. That same evening, the DeSantis campaign will release an official launch video with the goal of kicking off an early tour right after Memorial Day.
The Musk-DeSantis relationship could mean a big boost for the Republican’s campaign due to the Tesla mogul’s immense following.
Elon Musk shows his support for Ron DeSantis
In November 2022, Elon Musk indicated that he would support DeSantis in case the governor wanted to run for the presidency of the US, so the reveal should not come as a big surprise.
“As a reminder, I was a major supporter of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump,” Musk expressed via twitter, adding that his lean in the 2024 election will be for “someone sensible and centrist.”
“I had hoped that would be the case with the Biden administration, but so far he has disappointed me,” he noted. He was subsequently asked if he would support DeSantis in 2024, to which he replied, “Yes.”
DeSantis will become Donald Trump’s leading challenger for the Republican nomination, though he is far behind in polling estimates.
