Samsung recalls 1 million stoves for risk of fire: What models are affected?
Samsung has recalled over 1 million stoves sold between 2013 and 2024 at major retailers across the country. What models are affected?
On Thursday, August 8, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released a recall alert affecting 1 million stoves produced by Samsung that were sold for over a decade at major retailers, including Costco and Best Buy.
The federal agency reported that they have “received over 300 reports of unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs by humans or pets since 2013.” Of these incidents, around 250 fires have been started, and 18 “caused extensive property damage.” Sadly, during those more intense events, forty injuries were reported, and seven ended in the death of a household pet.
The models covered under the recall are wide-ranging, and if you have a Samsung stove, you should ensure that you contact the company if it is one of the following:
“The model number is located on the ranges on the inside upper left corner of the oven door or inside the storage bin located on the bottom of the oven,” advises the Commission.
What should you do if you own one of these stoves?
Once you confirm that you own one of these models, you should contact the Samsung helpline at 833-775-0120 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can also email rangesupport@sea.samsung.com. For more information, you can visit the company’s website dedicated to the recall.
Samsung will be correcting the issue by sending those impacted “a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with their model of electric slide-in range to install.”
