Say goodbye to cramped knees on the plane: This is Airbus’s new seat layout that will make your travels more comfortable

A startup working with the airplane manufacturing giant, Airbus, could make seats in economy much more comfortable.

Update:

Hate air travel because of the cramped conditions suffered by those in the economy? Relief may be on the way...

Earlier this year, a collaboration between aircraft manufacturing giant Airbus and aviation startup Chaise Lounge set out to enhance passenger comfort during flights.

While many are familiar with Airbus, its European rival Boeing, Chaise Lounge is a much younger company. On LinkedIn, the startup describes its product as “a commercial aviation Economy class and Premium Economy class seat that introduces a double-level design, optimizing cabin space to provide higher levels of comfort, an improved passenger experience, and increased cabin efficiency.”

The double-decker economy seat

The startup’s innovative redesign introduces a double-decker configuration for economy class, staggering seats to maximize legroom. This unique layout aims to transform the travel experience by creating a more spacious feel, even within the compact confines of an aircraft. To illustrate the concept, the company has developed a dynamic 3D model, similar to a video game simulation.

When will passengers see this change?

While travelers shouldn’t expect to board a plane with this double-decker seating anytime soon, the announcement offers hope for those frustrated by the discomfort of economy class. This innovative design could revolutionize long-haul travel, providing more room and a better experience for passengers who often feel cramped in traditional seating arrangements.
