Rapper Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy, is currently behind bars awaiting a trial. The indictment against Combs, which was released on September 19, accuses the rapper of “creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in, and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice.” Combs himself is believed to have “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct.” The criminal network that Combs is accused of running dates back to 2008, and it has taken federal investigators years to understand the inner-workings of the racketeering conspiracy in order to bring forward a case.

However, as for when the trial will begin, proceedings are not expected until May 2025. Combs and his legal team have maintained that their client is innocent, but until the trial, he will be held in downtown Manhattan.

What is Sean Combs charged with?

Sean Combs faces three counts that are outlined in the indictment:

  • Count 1: Racketeering Conspiracy
  • Count 2: Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud, or Coercion
  • Count 3: Transportation to Engage in Prostitution

The Department of Justice has explained that under federal law, the racketeering count carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, while the second and third counts could add an addition 15 and 10 years respectively.
