Shakira reacts to Spotify history making. What is the new listener record?
The Colombian has surpassed Bad Bunny and becomes the Latin artist with the most listeners on Spotify. It is the first time that a woman has achieved this.
In just one day, the musical collaboration between Shakira and Bizarrap, entitled Music Session Vol.53, became the most listened to on Spotify’s global list. The single was found at the top of the charts in several Spanish-speaking countries, which led it to occupy the first place in the world top 50 after only 24 hours of being released.
After a few days, Miley Cyrus climbed to the top position with her single ‘Flowers’, becoming the fastest artist to reach 100 million views on the streaming platform. However, Shakira has broken a new record for herself.
Shakira becomes the Latin artist with the most listeners on Spotify
Barely ten days have passed since the Colombian artist Shakira released the song that she dedicated to her ex-husband, Gerard Piqué. That made it a brutal hat-trick.The couple announced their separation last year after an alleged infidelity by the former FC Barcelona player.
As she points out in her song: “Women no longer cry, women get paid,” and in just over a week the Colombian singer continues to accumulate success, becoming the Latin artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. In addition, for the first time in the platform’s history, Shakira’s triumph means the most monthly listened to artist is a woman.
The Colombian surpassed Bad Bunny to become the most listened to with 68,879,869 monthly listeners, while the Puerto Rican dropped to second place with 68,040,492 listeners.
Shakira “humbled and grateful”
Shakira celebrated her new achievement on social media. “I feel humbled and grateful though I’m only one among millions of women out there who have so much to say and offer. Women of all races, ages and conditions.
“Thanks for your loyalty and support,” she posted on Twitter in reply to a fan account.
Meanwhile, 10 days after its premiere, Music Session Vol.53 has topped 180 million views on YouTube.
