“They keep blaming each other,” laments the shop owner, who hasn’t gotten any help from BNP Paribas Fortis advisors.

Update:

This happened in Verlaine, in Belgium’s Liège province, where a family of shopkeepers is facing a serious administrative and financial problem that no one seems able to resolve. Delphine, 40, runs a family appliance business with her parents and brother. Every week, the family deposits the cash from sales into their bank account via an ATM.

But two weeks ago, Delphine deposited €18,200 (about $19,800), and during the transaction, the machine stopped working. The printed receipt only showed $8,100 deposited, leaving $11,700 missing.

Will the money return? Yes. But she doesn’t know when. A BNP Paribas Fortis advisor agreed to investigate the case, and ten days later, the bank transferred €5,800 to Delphine’s family account, labeled “Batopin Refund,” but €4,950 was still missing. “This money is still out there,” the whistleblower laments to RTL.

The BNP Paribas Fortis spokesperson states that “the money that enters the machine is never lost. The National Bank records the amount. Any discrepancy between the cash and the coded amount is easy to verify,” but, for now, nothing is known about her money, neither where it is nor when it will be in her account.
