She won the lottery thanks to a reminder - and knew right away how to spend the prize

Debbie Truckermiller, an occasional Powerball player, decided to buy a lottery ticket at the Giant store in Exeter—a ticket that would ultimately win her one million dollars. The maximum prize she could have won was 400 million dollars, or approximately 190.7 million USD in cash.

After buying the ticket, Debbie went about her life as usual. Two days later, while washing the dishes, she saw a Facebook post that reminded her to check her numbers. When she did, she realised her ticket matched five of the five white balls drawn. She started shouting at her husband, who, incredulous, calmly asked for a moment to put on his glasses.

The couple then faced the question of how to spend their sudden windfall. It seems Debbie already had a plan: when sharing their story, they said the winnings would go towards “helping pay off some student loans.” In addition, they planned to make “some renovations, take vacations, and make investments,” as well as use some of the money to see their favourite team, the Eagles.

Drew Svitko, executive director of the Pennsylvania Lottery, commented: “On behalf of the Pennsylvania Lottery, we are thrilled to celebrate Debbie’s win. During the giving season, we are proud to see how Lottery proceeds help provide meals, transportation, and essential services for seniors.”

Debbie was not the only lucky one. The store where the ticket was purchased received a bonus of 5,000 euros, approximately 5,400 USD.
