At the beginning of next week, some Social Security recipients in the U.S. are scheduled to get their monthly payment for August 2026.
Social Security is paid out on Monday, August 3: who benefits?
In the U.S., certain Social Security beneficiaries are to get their latest monthly money early next week, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) kicks off the program’s payment schedule for August 2026.
On Monday, August 3, Social Security benefits are due to be sent out to two groups of recipients.
Who gets Social Security benefits on Monday, August 3?
- Some long-term beneficiaries
August’s benefits are to be paid out to recipients who began claiming their Social Security before May 1997.
- Double beneficiaries: Social Security + SSI
Next Monday is also August’s Social Security distribution date for beneficiaries who combine the scheme with Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
A benefit for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability, SSI differs from Social Security as it is needs-based. Eligibility is not dependent on a claimant’s work history.
August’s SSI benefits are to be distributed on Friday, July 31. Worth a monthly average of $738.10, SSI is typically issued on the first of each month, but is being paid early as August begins on a non-business day.
How much are monthly Social Security payments?
- Retirement benefits: $2,029.92
- Disability benefits: $1,496.16
- Survivor benefits: $1,631.39
Average benefit, per stats published by the SSA.
When are other Social Security beneficiaries paid in August?
Of the Social Security program’s 71.3 million beneficiaries, many will get their money on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in August, depending on their birthday:

- Born on 11th-20th of any month: Wednesday, August 19
- Born on 21st-31st of any month: Wednesday, August 26
NB: If you receive Social Security benefits based on someone else’s employment record, the SSA uses the other person’s date of birth.

Social Security recipients can update their bank details on the SSA’s online “my Social Security” platform.
- Direct Express
Benefits can be paid onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements. Sign up for Direct Express at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
