In the coming days, the U.S.’s Social Security Administration is to issue April 2026’s benefits to millions of Americans.

Social Security is paid out on Wednesday, April 8: Who benefits?

Next week, certain Social Security recipients in the U.S. are to get their April benefits, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) kicks off this month’s three-Wednesdays payment cycle.
Who’s receiving Social Security on Wednesday, April 8?
The SSA is to issue Social Security to recipients born between first and 10th of any month. (NB: If you claim benefits based on someone else’s work history, the agency uses the other person’s birthday - not yours.)
Of the 70.8 million Americans who receive Social Security benefits - whether retirement, disability or survivor pay - most get their money on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month.
In April 2026, this birthday-dependent payment cycle is:
- Born on 1st-10th of any month: Wednesday, April 8
- Born on 11th-20th of any month: Wednesday, April 15
- Born on 21st-31st of any month: Wednesday, April 22
How much money do Social Security recipients get?
- Retired workers: $2,076.41/month
- Disabled workers: $1,633.76/month
- Survivors: $1,623.28/month
(Average monthly payments, per SSA statistics.)
Who isn’t paid Social Security on the second, third or fourth Wednesday?
- Certain long-term recipients: April 3
Social Security beneficiaries who started claiming before May 1997 are paid on the third day of each month.
- Dual recipients: April 3
Social Security can be combined with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a separate benefit for certain low-income individuals. People who receive both are paid the former on the third of the month, with the latter sent out on the first.
How does Social Security make benefits payments?
- Direct deposit
Social Security recipients can supply the SSA with their bank details using the agency’s My Social Security tool.
- Direct Express
Benefits can be paid onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements. Sign up at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
