Social Security is sending out checks for $2,000 on average today, Wednesday, July 16: find out who gets a payment
The Social Security Administration is to distribute the latest batch of payments on its schedule for July 2025.
Millions of U.S. senior citizens who receive Social Security retirement benefits are set to get their latest monthly payment.
Today - Wednesday, July 16 - the Social Security Administration (SSA) is to issue the latest round of checks on this month’s distribution schedule.
Today’s payment run also benefits recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor pay.
Who’s receiving a Social Security check today, July 16?
Of the 69.8 million recipients of retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits in the U.S., most get their money on one of three Wednesdays each month.
Each beneficiary’s designated Wednesday is determined by their date of birth.
Today, the SSA is scheduled to make payments to recipients whose birthday falls on the 11th to the 20th of each month. This is the second of the agency’s Wednesday payments for July; the first was a week ago.
Wednesday payment schedule - July 2025:
- Weds., July 9: Recipients born on 1st to 10th
- Weds., July 16: Recipients born on 11th to 20th
- Weds., July 23: Recipients born on 21st to 31st
Who is paid outside of the three-Wednesdays timeline?
- Some long-term Social Security recipients
If you started receiving retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997, your payment is typically issued on the third of each month, regardless of your date of birth.
For these long-term beneficiaries, therefore, the July payment date was Thursday 3rd.
- SSI recipients
Beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - a separate SSA scheme for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability - are normally paid on the first of each month.
As a result, July’s SSI money was due to be sent out on Tuesday 1st.
- Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)
Around 2.5 million people in the U.S. claim both SSI and one of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits. These beneficiaries get the former on the first of the month and the latter on the third of the month.
Non-Wednesday recipients: July 2025 payments
- Tues., July 1: SSI beneficiaries
- Thurs., July 3: Regular Social Sec. beneficiaries since pre-May 1997
Dual beneficiaries: SSI paid on 1st, regular Social Security paid on 3rd
