The Social Security Administration (SSA) sends money to millions of people every month, including retired workers, survivors, as well as recipients of disability payments like Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

The agency sends monthly payments on specific dates based on a fixed schedule. For example, SSI benefits are sent on the first day of the month, while other payments are sent every Wednesday. However, on certain occasions, the payment schedule changes.

When the shipping date falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are advanced to the previous business day. This happens in this month of June.

Social Security payments are advanced for these beneficiaries

Although Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are scheduled to be sent out on the first day of the month, benefits were distributed on May 31 instead, since June 1 was a Saturday.

Meanwhile, the payment of beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and the 20th is brought forward to Tuesday, June 18 because Wednesday, June 19 is Juneteenth Day- a federal holiday.

This is the complete payment schedule for June:

  • Monday, June 3: Beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday, June 12: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 1st and the 10th
  • Tuesday, June 18: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and the 20th (sent on Tuesday because June 19 is the Juneteenth Day holiday)
  • Wednesday, June 26: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 21st and the 31st

What is the average monthly Social Security payment for 2024?

Thanks to the cost of living adjustment (COLA), average payments for retired workers rose to just over $1,900 for the year 2024. Other Social Security payments are as follows:

  • Surviving spouse with two children: $3,540 to $3,653
  • Single elderly surviving spouse: $1,718 to $1,773
  • Worker with a disability, his or her spouse, and one or more children: from $2,636 to $2,720
  • All workers with a disability: from $1,489 to $1,537

On the other hand, the maximum benefits for Social Security recipients, which are not related to the COLA, are the following:

  • 62 years: $2,710
  • 65 years: $3,426
  • 66 years: $3,652
  • Payments claimed at full retirement age (67 for people born after 1960): $3,822
  • 70 years: $4,873

Additionally, for this year, maximum Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits rose to $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples. The hike is also due to the increase indicated by the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).
