Social Security: the changes in the June payment schedule that you should know

The payment distribution schedule will undergo a few modifications in June. Here is when your benefits will be delivered.

Estados Unidos
Maximum Social Security benefit for someone aged 70 in 2024

The Social Security Administration (SSA) issues millions of checks to beneficiaries each month, with the majority of payments going to retired workers and individuals with certain disabilities under the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) category.

Payments are distributed every Wednesday, with the exact date depending on the beneficiaries’ birthday. Those born between the 1st and the 10th receive their checks on the second Wednesday of the month. Recipients with a birth date between the 11th and the 20th receive their checks on the third Wednesday, and those born between the 21st and the 31st receive their checks on the last Wednesday of the month. However, this schedule doesn’t apply to workers who retired before May 1997 or SSI beneficiaries, as they receive their payments in the first few days of the month.

The checks will be sent out earlier if the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday. The Administration has announced changes in the payment schedule for the upcoming month of June. The first change will mainly affect SSI beneficiaries, while the second change will impact those born between the 11th and the 20th.

Changes to the Social Security payment schedule in June

Although SSI beneficiaries usually receive their payment at the beginning of each month, there will be a change for June. This is due to the fact that the regular payment date falls on a weekend. As a result, beneficiaries will receive two checks in May: one for the current month and another for June. The June payment will be issued on Friday, May 31st. Therefore, no payment will be issued to SSI recipients in June.

  • Monday, June 3: Beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday the 12th: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 1st and the 10th
  • Tuesday 18: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and 20th
  • Wednesday 26: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 21st and 31st

Additionally, beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of the month will experience a change in their payment date. Originally scheduled for Juneteenth Day, which is a federal holiday, their payments will be issued on Tuesday, June 18th.
