Spotify has released their annual Wrapped, showing users which tracks they have listened to most this year, what genres they like, and how many minutes they have listened to. Accompanying this they release information on which artists have been listened to the most in the US and globally, and it a familiar list.

Drake is top for US listeners, same as he was back in 2021 and 2020. He released his seventh album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ on 17 June 2022 which helped him get billions of streams in the US.

The most-streamed artists in the US were:

  1. Drake
  2. Taylor Swift
  3. Bad Bunny
  4. Kanye West
  5. The Weeknd

What about globally?

Of course the US is not the centre of the universe and people globally have different tastes in music. What this means is Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny knocks Drake off top spot. This repeats his success in 2020 and 2021 as he was again Spotify’s most-streamed artist globally, racking up an astonishing 18.5 billion streams this year.

This was aided by the release of his album “Un Verano Sin Tior “A summer without you” in English. It was released 6 May, 2022 and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The global success can also be attributed to the popularity of reggaeton music, big in the US but also in South America as well as the majority of Europe.

The most-streamed artists globally were:

  1. Bad Bunny
  2. Taylor Swift
  3. Drake
  4. The Weeknd
  5. BTS
