Last year, several states decided to send financial aid to their residents to help them deal with inflation that reached record levels, in addition to high prices of fuel and groceries.

Although inflation has fallen considerably in recent months, several states across the country continue to send stimulus checks or tax refunds to continue helping their residents. Find out which areas will send money in August.

Idaho

This state approved the remittance of refunds in 2022. However, the remittance of payments continues as eligible taxpayers file their tax returns. You can track the status of your refund using the state’s Where’s My Refund? tool.

Massachusetts

Taxpayers can receive a refund of approximately 14% of their state tax liability. Anyone who paid personal income taxes in Massachusetts for tax year 2021 and filed a state tax return of 2021 on or before September 15, 2023 is eligible for a refund.

Payments are sent about a month after you file your tax return, so if you filed in July, you’ll receive your payment in August. If you’re eligible for a refund, you’ll automatically receive it as a check sent by mail or by direct deposit. You can check the status of your refund at the government website.

Montana

Montana residents may qualify for a property tax refund of up to $675 per year of property taxes paid on a principal residence. To qualify, you must be a Montana taxpayer who received a bill and paid property taxes on the principal residence, and who has the following qualifications:

  • Owned a residence in Montana for at least seven months
  • Has lived at this Montana residence for at least seven months
  • Was billed for property taxes, including special assessments and other fees, on this residence
  • Paid for property taxes on this residence

Taxpayers can claim their 2022 property tax refund online through the TransAction Portal or via a paper form beginning August 15, 2023. The claim must be submitted before October 1, 2023.

New Mexico

State residents will receive a refund of $500 for single taxpayers and $1,000 for taxpayers who filed a 2021 personal income tax (PIT) return and are not claimed as a dependent on the return of another taxpayer.

According to the refund web portal, the checks and direct deposits were mailed in June. However, eligible residents have until May 31, 2024 to file the 2021 PIT return in order to receive their refund. If you filed your return last month or this month, you could receive your money in August.

Pennsylvania

The state has the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers over 50 years of age, and people with disabilities over the age of 18.

The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualified homeowners can increase rebates to $975. Applications were accepted through June 30, and payments began in July.

It takes an additional four to six weeks from the date your claim is approved for your refund to be mailed or direct deposited, so if you applied in June, your payment could arrive this month.

For more information, frequently asked questions or to check the status of your payment, visit the program’s web portal.
