Last year, inflation in the United States reached historic levels. Given the rising prices, particularly of staple goods, a number of government institutions approved sending stimulus checks or tax refunds as inflation relief for hard working Americans. Although inflation has fallen in recent months, support continues to be sent.

Here are the states sending checks or refunds in February and what the amounts are.

California

The Middle Class Tax Rebate will be received by a handful of Californians who are yet to have it. On the Middle Class Tax Refund web portal you can check all the information and payment dates.

Hawaii

Hawaii residents who earned less than $100,000 in 2021, or $200,000 if filing jointly, should receive a one-time tax refund of $300. Individuals who earned more than $100,000 and couples who earned more than $200,000 qualify for a payment of $100.

Direct deposits began issuing at the end of August, however, taxpayers who filed their 2021 state tax returns between July 31 and December 31, 2022 will receive direct deposit up to 10 weeks after the tax department accepts your return, or 12 weeks if you requested a physical check.

Idaho

Governor Brad Little authorized the submission of $600 tax refunds. Payments began in September, but continue into early 2023 as taxpayers file their returns and become eligible for a refund. More details of the Idaho tax refund.

Massachusetts

Taxpayers are eligible to receive a refund of approximately 14% of their state tax liability. People who filed their 2021 return before October 17 of last year should have received their refund in December. Taxpayers who filed after and up to September 15, 2023, should receive their payment one month after the return is filed. You can consult more details on the state website.

New Mexico

In-state residents can still receive a refund of $500 for single filers and $1,000 for joint filers. Residents have until May 2023 to file their income taxes of 2021 and qualify for a rebate.

South Carolina

Taxpayers are eligible for a refund of up to $800. Payments began at the end of last year, but those who file after February 15, 2023, will receive their refund in March of 2023.

Michigan

Michigan’s Democrat governor Gretchen Whitmer says the state plans to reimburse all citizens who filed taxes last year with a $180 relief check. The state has a $9-billion surplus and wants to share the wealth with all Michigan taxpayers in 2023.

This is yet to have been approved by the state legislature.

New Jersey

About 2 million New Jersey households are eligible for property tax refunds, thanks to Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR).

Homeowners making up to $150,000 will receive $1,500 in property tax refunds, while those making between $150,000 and $250,000 will receive $1,000. Tenants earning up to $150,000 will receive $450 checks. Refunds will arrive no later than May 2023.
