Store opening hours on Thanksgiving Day 2024: Walmart, Costco, Target...
Thanksgiving Day, November 28, is a public holiday. Here are the opening hours of supermarkets and stores.
This Thursday, November 28, is Thanksgiving in the United Staes. It is one of the most important holidays for the country, as families and friends come together to celebrate and give thanks for what they are grateful for in their lives.
As one of the official holidays on the calendar, government offices must close. Schools, post offices, libraries and banks are also closed on this day, but what about supermarkets and stores? Typically, stores are closed or operate on an adjusted time table to allow workers to spend the celebration with their family.

Unlike other holidays such as Labor Day, Memorial Day or Veterans Day, when stores remain open, on Thanksgiving Day, most stores are closed or operate on an adjusted time table to allow workers to spend the celebration with their family.
Walmart
In October, Walmart CEO John Furner announced that Walmart stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day for the fourth consecutive year nationwide. Stores will reopen the following day, November 29, for Black Friday, at 6:00 a.m.
“Thanksgiving is a special day, and we want our store associates to have the chance to spend it with their families and loved ones,” reads a post on X.
Target
Target will also be closed on November 28 for Thanksgiving Day. Stores will open on Friday for Black Friday at 6:00 a.m.
Costco and Sam’s Club
Similarly, membership stores such as Costco and Sam’s Club will be closed Thursday, November 28 for Thanksgiving. Both stores reopen on Friday for Black Friday.
Costco will open for regular business hours on November 29. Opening hours may vary by location, so it's best to use the Costco store locator. For Black Friday, regular business hours are also expected at Sam's Club.
