With Fourth of July celebrations already underway, there are just two days left to sort out any last-minute preparations before the big day. Whether you’re shopping for a family barbecue or looking to pick up a bargain in the Fourth of July sales, many choose to head to the stores around this time. Which stores will be open on 4 July?

This year, Independence Day falls on a Monday and store opening hours vary, with a few opting to remain closed all day. Did you know? How old is America on July 4th 2022?

Fireworks shortages, displays canceled

A number of US cities won’t be holding firework displays to celebrate Fourth of July this year. For a number of reasons - shortages of staff due to the pandemic, supply chain difficulties, concerns about wildfires and public safety due to weeks of dry weather. Distribution issues mean that it might be more difficult to find a store with fireworks in stock and in some areas, like Castle Rock, Colorado, the sale and use of fireworks is banned altogether for the time being due to dry weather. Public firework displays will be going ahead in many areas although several have been canceled this year or rescheduled for a later date.

However there is evidence that more people are choosing to celebrate at home with record-breaking fireworks sales during the pandemic. Consumer sales of fireworks doubled in 2020 compared to the previous year, reaching a whopping $1.8 billion and the trend continues as personal sales hit $2.2 billion in 2021. Now that pandemic restrictions have been lifted, the figure could be even higher this year.

Phantom Fireworks, the US’ number one fireworks retailer with stores in fifteen states began stocking their shelves late last year to be able to meet demand. Phantom President and CEO Bruce J. Zoldan explained, “We are ready at Phantom to help our nation move forward and heal from the last few difficult years. Phantom hopes all of its friends are able to enjoy the summer with friends and family this year, with safe Phantom products as we move towards a hopeful future.”
