The Fourth of July is almost here, and if you’re planning on some last-minute shopping for your cookout, here are the supermarket hours during the holiday.
The country will be celebrating its independence on the Fourth of July holiday on Thursday.
The observation of Independence Day was ratified on June 28, 1870, when Congress decreed July 4 as a federal holiday. The origin of this celebration dates back to 1776 when representatives of the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain, a document that recognizes the United States as an independent nation.
Being a national holiday, government offices, as well as post offices, libraries, schools, the stock exchange and banks generally remain closed, but what about supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants?

Fourth of July 2024: Supermarket, pharmacy and restaurant hours
Supermarkets generally remain open for many federal holidays. This holds true for the Fourth of July, as most stores will be open for business, although some may have reduced hours or will close earlier.
Many retailers make use of the 4th of July holiday to present special offers, promotions and discounts on certain items. According to a survey by coupon company RetailMeNot, half of Americans intend to take advantage of the marked down prices available on this day.
Supermarkets such as Walmart, Sam’s Club and Target will be open on the Fourth of July. However, hours may vary from one branch to another, so we recommend checking the schedule of your local outlet in advance.

Costco will be closed on this holiday. The members-only warehouse club is one of the stores that observe the most holidays in the year, including New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Trader Joe’s will be open but only until 5 p.m. local time. Aldi will have limited operating hours, with holiday hours varying depending on the branch. Check with the location of your choice to find out what time they will be open.
Most of the Kroger family of stores will be open on Thursday, but it would be best to check with local stores for their business hours during the holiday.
Aside from Kroger, this network of stores include Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Soopers, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler, and Smith’s Food and Drug.
As for pharmacies, CVS and Walgreens will remain open.
Meanwhile, fast food and other restaurants, such as Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, McDonald’s and Chipotle, will also be open on the 4th of July. Customers can check specific store hours in their respective apps or through the store locator on their respective websites.
