Some residents of the state of Virginia are eligible for a refund check of up to $400 dollars thanks to legislation passed last September by the state’s General Assembly .

In accordance with said legislation, the state government has a budget of $900 million dollars to issue refund checks, which will go to residents who comply with their tax obligations, that is, those who submitted their respective tax return in a timely manner.

Who will receive the $400 checks?

To be eligible for the refund checks you must be a resident of the state of Virginia and have your respective tax return, which must have been submitted before July 1, 2023.

Eligible individuals will receive a one-time refund payment of $200, while couples filing jointly are eligible for a $400 check.

“As Virginians continue to face inflation and high prices as a direct result of policies out of Washington, D.C., these rebates are an important step going into the holiday season to help Virginians keep more of their hard-earned money for gas, groceries and essentials, said Governor Glenn Youngkin in a statement.

When will refund checks arrive?

If you are a Virginia resident and filed your tax return on time, you just have to wait for the amount of the check to be deposited into your bank account or sent via postal mail to the address registered on your return; since the payment will be issued automatically, so there is no need to do any extra paperwork to request it.

According to state information, payments will be issued before November 30, as the Department of Revenue intends to send all checks before the end of the month, so we recommend being keeping an eye on your bank accounts and/or mail box.
