Texas tornado and storm relief: How and where to apply for payments
Texans whose property suffered damage from the severe storms and tornadoes can apply for financial assistance from FEMA. Here’s how to claim the relief.
Bad weather continues to wreak havoc in Texas. In the last few hours, seven people lost their lives as a result of tornadoes, while hundreds of homes were damaged due to to the recent severe storms, tornadoes and flooding; so the federal government has made various financial aid available to those affected through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Who qualifies for FEMA disaster assistance?
Texans who suffered property damage caused by severe weather that began on April 26 may be eligible for disaster assistance from FEMA. Assistance is currently available to residents of Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity and Walker counties. However, more regions are expected to join in the coming hours, so state residents are recommended keep an eye out for new updates.
FEMA disaster assistance offers a payment of up to $750 for essential items, so individuals can meet their immediate needs. There is also assistance for displaced people, which offers “upfront funds to assist with immediate housing options of their choice, to keep people housed” and home repair assistance, which is used to repair the structural parts of your home.

How and where to request FEMA payments?
If you live in one of the affected counties, you can submit your application for relief to FEMA through the website DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling the FEMA assistance hotline at 800-621-3362, between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. CT, seven days a week.
