Thanksgiving weather forecast: The areas where it could snow on November 28

The chance of snow on Thanksgiving is increasing in states as travelers begin to plan their journeys.

A strong low pressure system over the Midwest is producing hazardous conditions across the nation with numerous weather advisories and warnings issued.

Thanksgiving is just a little under a week away, and many are beginning to prepare for travel. Those flying or hitting the road may be curious about the weather forecast and the possibility of snow that could disrupt their plans. Though the estimates are subject to change, the National Weather Service has released its first forecasts for Thanksgiving, providing much-needed information to those planning to travel for the holiday. Since the last forecasts were released, there have been shifts that do not favor travelers.

Which areas are likely to see snow or rain?

Across the US, much of the country is seeing an increased chance of rain or snow on Thanksgiving. The areas where the forecast indicates the highest chance of precipitation are the Plains and the southeast. However, much of the Midwest, the Rocky Mountain states, and the Northeast are also more likely to see snow or rain this year.

Which areas are expected to see lower temperatures?

As travelers prepare to make their journey’s this Thanksgiving, many areas in the country will be seeing lower than average temperatures. As the map illustrates, the areas that are most likley to see lower temperatures are Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota, with the surrounding states also seeing a higher chance of a colder Thanksgiving. From Arizona through to North Carolina will see higher than average temperatures.

Taking it all together... which areas could see snow on Thanksgiving?

While the temperature forecasts for Thanksgiving will be critical to gaining the full picture of the weather expected, these two maps show that the areas that are more likely to see snow, and those include states in the Mountain West and, if temperatures drop low enough, the Plains. Additionally in the Midwest and Northeast, residents should prepare for the chance of snow, and any impacts that will have on travel plans.
