PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
The big impact RFK Jr. dropping out could have on the Presidential election race
Independent presidential candidate RFK Jr. has suspended his campaign saying he has no realistic path to victory.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was standing as an independent candidate in the American presidential election has announced he is suspending his campaign.
Dropping out, he said he no longer believes he has a “realistic path of electoral victory”, blaming that on “relentless, systematic censorship and media control”.
What does RFK Jr. dropping out mean for Harris and Trump?
The big question is what does RFK Jr. dropping out of the race mean for the two main challengers. Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris.
After suspending his campaign, RFK Jr. endorsed Donald Trump, saying he would “throw my support to President Trump.”
Kennedy never had any realistic chance of winning, but the big fear for Democrats is that him dropping out and endorsing Trump could mean the voters who were drawn to his conspiracy and anti-vaccine based campaign get behind Trump, particularly in battleground states, and manage to swing the election in favor of the former president.
Trump advisers happy with RFK Jr. decision
What is likely though is that any impact of RFK Jr.’s decision to pull out is going to favour Trump. People likely to vote for RFK Jr. were far more likely to be potential Trump supporters, despite the fact that RFK Jr. was a former Democrat and bears one of the most famous Democratic names.
Trump himself was desperate for an endorsement, as Kennedy’s campaign spiralled to its end.
“If he endorsed me, I would be honored by it,” Trump said Thursday on Fox News. “I would be very honored by it. He really has his heart in the right place.”
Democrats claim no impact on presidential race
The Democrats previously claimed that an endorsement of Trump by Kennedy would “change nothing”.
But Harris spokesman Michael Tyler said that if Kennedy’s supporters wanted someone “who is going to fight for their interests, their values, or they’re looking for somebody who understood as it relates to the personal decisions that they make in their lives, that the government should get the hell out of the way, then there’s a home for them in Kamala Harris campaign.”
The final impact of RFK Jr. dropping out remains to be seen.
