The city with a pink sky: but why?
The Cann Group, which is dedicated to the cultivation of medical cannabis in the Australian town of Mildura, was responsible for the unusual event.
Do you remember the Beatles song ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’? Was it a rebellious anthem linked to crazy drug-taking like many people think? Or was is possibly a lovely tribute to the imagination of a child? Well, either way, it certainly started swirling around in our heads when we saw what was happening in Mildura in recent days.
Pink sky at night, cannabis growth light
Just a few days ago, the inhabitants of the Australian city witnessed an unusual pink sky that completely covered the town. Despite the many theories, a number of elaborate conspiracies and alien ideas included, that were developed in the hours following the event, the true explanation has now been revealed.
Cann Group, a pharmaceutical company dedicated to the cultivation of medical cannabis in that area of Australia, has acknowledged that they were the ones responsible for the sky taking on the intense pink color. The firm’s director of communication, Rhys Cohen, explained what happened to The Guardian.
“Cannabis plants require different spectrums of light in order to encourage their growth,” Mr Cohen said. “A red spectrum light is often used.”
However, the question remained: why did the eery glow appear now?

An issue with blinding lights
The problem was that on this occasion the night blinds did not work properly.
“Normally the facility would have blackout blinds that come down at night, and will in the future block that glow,” Mr Cohen continued.
As if that were not enough, the weather was not very good either and the completely cloudy sky that covered Mildura at that time made the lights reflect intensely, creating that pink sky that everyone has been talking about in the city.
Realizing that the sky had turned completely pink, those responsible for the plantation quickly went to the farm to operate the shutters correctly. That meant the color was only present in Mildura for around an hour, but it was more than enough time for the city’s inhabitants to get excited.
“The kids’ imaginations went wild and of course the topic of aliens was presented,” one local mother said.
