Update:

Carlo Acutis, a British-born Italian teenager who coded websites and wore sneakers, will soon become the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint.

When will Carlo Acutis become a saint?

His canonization, set for September 7 and led by Pope Leo XIV - the Church’s first American pope – marks a generational shift in sainthood. Acutis, who died from leukemia in 2006 at age 15, gained fame for using his computer skills to document Eucharistic miracles online. Now, he’s credited with a few miracles of his own.

The miracles of Carlo Acutis

The first came in Brazil. A four-year-old boy with a rare pancreatic birth defect was reportedly healed after his mother prayed to Acutis for help. The second happened in Italy, when a 21-year-old Costa Rican student recovered from a severe head injury after her mother visited Acutis’ tomb in Assisi.

Both recoveries were investigated and confirmed by Vatican authorities, a requirement for canonization.

Pope Francis had initially scheduled the ceremony for April, but his death delayed it. Now, thousands of young Catholics are expected to flood St. Peter’s Square for the event. Many see Acutis – often depicted in jeans and hoodies – as someone who makes holiness feel more reachable.

Also to be canonized that day is Pier Giorgio Frassati, a 24-year-old who died in 1925. But it’s Acutis, nicknamed “God’s influencer,” who is making headlines, a digital-age saint for the TikTok generation.
