The Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to issue the final round of Social Security Program payments for September. Every month, the SSA distributes millions of payments to its program beneficiaries, who include retired workers and individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

To ensure efficient payment distribution, the Administration schedules the distribution based on the beneficiary’s date of birth. Those born between the 1st and 10th receive their payment on the second Wednesday of the month. Those born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, and those born between the 21st and 31st receive their payment on the last Wednesday.

It is important to note that workers who retired before May 1997 and those who receive both Social Security and SSI payments receive their benefits on the first of the month, regardless of their date of birth.

Who will be paid on September 25?

Payment amounts vary from beneficiary to beneficiary.

In August 2024, the average monthly payment for a retired individual was $1,907, and for retired couples who file their tax return jointly, it was $3,303. The average monthly payment for SSI beneficiaries was $698.51.

Every year, Social Security payments are increased through the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). This measure serves to prevent the erasure of purchasing power by inflation. In 2024, the COLA increase was 3.2%, while the 2025 adjustment will be announced in October.

According to the official distribution calendar and the SSA estimates table, this Wednesday, September 25, retirees born between the 21st and 31st of the month will receive an average payment.
