For those who are not a fan of the bitter cold, the Old Farmer’s Almanac bears some good news. The periodical has come out with its weather predictions, and it foresees a “calmer, gentler” winter compared to the extremes of recent years.

For the most part, the almanac’s forecast shows a temperate, uneventful winter, with a few exceptions.

According to the publication, Florida, the Deep South, and southern California can expect winter rainstorms, while central and southern Appalachia, the western Ohio Valley, and the Rockies will experience heavy snowfall.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac began making weather predictions when it was first published more than 230 years ago. Since its inception, the periodical included long-range weather forecasts, which became one of its most popular features.

The publication’s outlook varies widely this year from that of the Farmers’ Almanac, which has warned of weather that it describes as a “wet winter whirlwind”.

What is the difference between the Old Farmer’s Almanac and the Farmer’s Almanac?

Though very similar in name, the two publications have several differences.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac was established in 1792, while the Farmers’ Almanac was founded later in 1818. Both publications offer weather predictions, tips on agriculture, and astronomical data, but possess their own editorial approach and design.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac says it makes use of a secret formula for forecasting weather, which includes solar activity, tidal forces, and meteorological patterns. It incorporates modern scientific methods and the expertise of meteorologists in its predictions.

The Farmers’ Almanac also uses its own formula, which includes mathematical and astronomical factors like sunspot activity and lunar cycles.

Both feature gardening tips, astronomy, and celestial events, although the Farmers’ Almanac gives a little more emphasis on practical matters by offering content on household tips, recipes, and natural remedies.
