The personal life of Ana de Armas: from millionaire partner to activist brother
The Spanish-Cuban actress has been nominated for an Oscar for best actress after her spectacular role as Marilyn Monroe in ‘Blonde’.
It’s a far cry from the time that the teenage actress began to make her mark on national television with ‘El internado’. Ana de Armas is now an established superstar in Hollywood and that was further demonstrated on Tuesday when the Spanish-Cuban was nominated for the Oscar Awards in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role. She will compete for the golden statuette on 12 March with Cate Blanchett, Andrea Riseborough, Michelle Williams and Michelle Yeoh.
What family does Ana de Armas have?
Much has been written about Ana’s career, with roles in successful films such as ‘Knock Knock’, ‘War Dogs’, ‘Blade Runner 2049′ or ‘Daggers in the Back’, the latter giving her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. However, the more personal side of her life tends to be a much more guarded topic.
De Armas left everything in Cuba, where she had already been studying acting for years, to come to Spain, taking advantage of the fact that her grandparents were Spanish. On the other side of the Atlantic she left her parents behind. Ramon, her father, has worked throughout his life as a teacher, bank manager, school principal and was even deputy mayor, while her mother, also named Ana, was employed for years by the Cuban Ministry of Education in Human Resources.
The actress has hardly been photographed with her parents, but it is known that she visits them when her busy schedule allows, and that she has never forgotten the country where she was born. She even bought a new house there a few years back.
Ana also has a brother, although he prefers to use his mother’s surname and goes by the name of Javier Caso. The bond that unites them is very strong and they are very close, with Javier having been living in New York for years. There he is a prestigious photographer and has seen his work and his stature grow steadily, often working on close-ups of his beloved sister. Caso combines his work with political activism with which he denounces, especially on Facebook, the situation in Cuba while demanding freedom and an end to violence.
Ana de Armas, happy with Paul Boukadakis
The Oscar nominee is currently in a romantic relationship with Paul Boukadakis, with whom she appeared for the first time in public last September at the Venice Film Festival, although their relationship dates back to 2021. At 38 years old, the American businessman has an estimated fortune of $13 million thanks to the multiple companies he has developed throughout his career.
Boukadakis was a business and music video manager for ten years, and that helped him create Ferris, a video sharing app that was later acquired by Tinder in 2017 for $4 million. The owner of arguably the most famous dating app, Briand Norgand, then saw Paul’s talent and signed him up as vice president in charge of Special Actions, a position he accepted and still holds today.
Previously, Ana de Armas had a relationship with Ben Affleck that hit headlines around the world but reportedly ended because the two had different visions on important issues going forward. Much earlier, at the beginning of the last decade, De Armas was married to Spanish actor Marc Clotet, but they divorced in 2013. Later the actress would be with screenwriter and director David Victori, talent agent Franklin Latt and painter Alejandro Piñeiro.
When is the 2023 Oscar award ceremony?
The Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at Ovation Hollywood, the renamed Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, on 13 March, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET. It will be Kimmel’s third time hosting the awards and we’ll be bringing it to you live here on AS USA.
