The reasons for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s possible bad relationship with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
The Prince and Princess of Wales won’t be meeting up with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry while in the US despite their paths potentially having crossed.
Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived in Boston on Wednesday to present awards at the second annual Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit. Coincidentally, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are due to be in the Big Apple on 6 December for the Ripple of Hope Award Gala.
It had been reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales had planned a longer stay to take a “quick trip” to New York City to “enjoy the festivities in the build-up to Christmas.” However, their trip will now last just three days with them departing after the awards ceremony that is set to take place 2 December.
Likewise, there are no plans for the Sussexes to take part in the Earthshot events with a royal expert speculating that the next in line to be King and Queen of the British monarchy wouldn’t want them there so as to not “steal their thunder” at the event to recognize contributions to environmentalism. “They are very much rivals now, not brothers in arms, and I’m afraid I can’t see a reconciliation soon,” Phil Dampier said.
Reasons behind possible bad relationship between William and Harry
There has been much reporting on the growing rift between the Cambridges and Sussexes with the ball really getting rolling in fall of 2018. Insiders spilled the beans to the tabloids that there was friction between Kate and Meghan. However, in November that year veteran royal reporter Katie Nicholl revealed that the real drama was between William and Harry.
Basically, it came down to Harry feeling that Meghan wasn’t being included enough in the royal family and brought it up with his brother. “Harry felt William wasn’t rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so,” a source had told Nicholl. The request resulted in a falling out between the brothers.
Now it should be mentioned that prior to their getting married, William had asked his brother if he was moving too quickly in his relationship with Meghan according to the veteran royal reporter.
The “royal rift” between brothers widens
The situation has had its ups and downs over the past four years but the two have been growing ever more distant. Especially with the Sussexes announcing that they would be stepping back from senior royal duties and moving across the Atlantic. The news “blindsided” the then Duke of Cambridge as his brother hadn’t come to him first with their intentions.
Since then, the stated reason for leaving, a need for privacy, has irked the other royals as Harry and Meghan continue to air the monarchy’s dirty laundry in public. First there was the couple’s big tell-all interview with Oprah in March 2021 and later Meghan gave an interview to The Cut. The first had reporters asking William if the royal family is “racist”.
On top of that, the Sussexes have been working on a project with Netflix, ‘Harry & Meghan’, which could provide further glimpses behind the curtain of guarded royal life. The royal family has taken issue with how the streaming service has portrayed the monarchy with the hit series ‘The Crown’.
Netflix just announced that the “vulnerable look into the couple’s high-profile relationship,” is coming soon. And to boot, Harry signed a book deal to publish his memoirs ‘Spare’ scheduled for release January 2023.
