How are benefits distributed?

These cards function as debit cards and can be used at many major supermarket chains, smaller grocers, and some farmer’s markets. Over forty million people benefit from SNAP each month, making it the country’s largest program focused on food assistance.

Additionally, this summer, some states will reload the EBT card with additional funds as households with children will not be able to benefit from free or reduced lunch plans offered at school. The program is called Sun Bucks, and qualifying families will see the additional benefit reflected in their balance in July.
