These are the 5 safest cities to live in the United States

Safety is one of the main considerations for US residents when it comes to buying or renting a new property.

Crime in some areas of the United States has been on the rise for a number of years, with many believing the trend to be linked to financial crises that have affected the country since the beginning of the 21st century. Security is, of course, one of the principal considerations when it comes to deciding where to live, whether buying a home for the long-term or renting a property in the short-term.

House prices are also, of course, influenced by how safe - or not - an area is to reside in. Prospective buyers and tenants know they will likely have to pay top dollar in neighbourhoods, towns and cities with low crime rates, which is now more important for many than other factors such as climate, job opportunities, local services and leisure activities, as well as proximity to traditionally popular attractions such as beaches and monuments.

A report conducted by the FBI and published by Rocket Mortgage discovered the five places listed above are are the safest in the US in relation to crime rate levels (the study analysed serious crimes and property crimes per 100,000 inhabitants).

Food for thought if you are thinking of buying a new house, or perhaps moving to a new area? There does also appear to be a direct link between low crimes rates and high per capita income, with median household income close to or over $100,000 in four of the five safest locations.
