July 1 will be an important date for workers in several California cities, as local minimum wage increases will take effect. The new rates will exceed California’s statewide minimum wage, which is currently $16.90 per hour, as well as the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.

Although California’s minimum wage is higher than the national rate, several cities and counties set their own local minimum wages, including Los Angeles City, Los Angeles County, San Francisco, Berkeley, Pasadena, and others. Here is the complete list.

California cities raising their minimum wage on July 1

Below is the full list of California cities and counties that will increase their minimum wage on July 1, along with the new hourly rates.

Alameda

Each year, Alameda adjusts its minimum wage based on increases in the cost of living, with annual increases capped at 5%. The new minimum wage for 2026 will be $17.76 per hour.

Berkeley

Berkeley’s current minimum wage is $19.18 per hour. On July 1, it will increase to $19.61 per hour.

Emeryville

On July 1, 2025, Emeryville’s minimum wage increased to $19.90 per hour. In 2026, it will rise again to $20.34 per hour.

Fremont

Fremont adjusts its minimum wage annually based on the Consumer Price Index. The city’s minimum wage increased to $17.75 per hour on July 1, 2025, and will rise to $18.05 per hour on July 1, 2026.

City of Los Angeles

Under Section 187.02(d) of the Los Angeles Municipal Code, the city’s minimum wage is adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) for the Los Angeles metropolitan area, as published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Following the annual calculation, the city determined that the minimum wage will increase by $0.55 on July 1, bringing the new rate to $18.42 per hour.

Los Angeles County

Beginning July 1, the minimum wage in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County will increase to $18.47 per hour. The increase applies only to unincorporated communities within the county.

Milpitas

Milpitas adjusts its minimum wage based on the Bay Area Consumer Price Index, as published by the U.S. Department of Labor. The minimum wage will increase to $18.50 per hour on July 1, 2026.

Pasadena

Pasadena’s current minimum wage is $18.04 per hour. The new rate taking effect on July 1, 2026, will be $18.57 per hour.

San Francisco

On July 1, 2026, San Francisco’s minimum wage will increase to $19.61 per hour. The minimum wage for employees receiving government-supported wages will rise to $17.35 per hour.

Santa Monica

Santa Monica’s minimum wage is adjusted annually based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) for the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Effective July 1, 2026, the new minimum wage will be $18.47 per hour.

The minimum wage for hotel employees and workers employed by businesses operating on hotel properties will increase to $25.00 per hour on July 1, 2026.

West Hollywood

On January 1, 2026, the minimum wage for non-hotel employees increased to $20.25 per hour. Meanwhile, on July 1, 2026, the minimum wage for hotel employees will increase to $20.87 per hour.
