The state of California has the highest minimum wage nationwide. According to official figures, the Golden State has a state average of $15.50 per hour, which will increase by 2024 to $16 per hour. This is well above the national standard, which is $7.25.

The minimum wage in California is more than double the national level thanks to the fact that the state, led by Gavin Newsom, has passed legislation to implement annual increases, with the aim of avoiding the decrease in the purchasing power of its residents when the inflation rate is high. However, because the cost of living in each of the cities differs, local governments are also preparing for a new adjustment.
