Update:

Nearly 7.5 million people are to get a benefits check from the U.S. Social Security Administration (SAA) today - Tuesday, July 1 - in what is the opening payment on the agency’s distribution schedule for this month.

Who’s receiving a check from the SSA today, July 1?

The SSA is to send out the latest monthly check to beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) scheme.

SSI payments are always made on the first of each month, unless that day falls on a weekend or holiday.

Who receives SSI checks?

A program that currently has 7.409 million beneficiaries nationwide, SSI is aimed at people who have little to no income or resources, and are over-65 or have a disability.

Unlike Social Security programs such as retirement benefits, survivor pay and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), eligibility for SSI does not depend on recipients’ payment of Social Security taxes. It is a needs-based, rather than contribution-based, program.

How much money do SSI recipients get each month?

According to figures published by the SSA last month, SSI beneficiaries get $718.30 a month on average.

The SSA says the maximum SSI check available to an individual claimant is $967. Eligible couples can get up to $1,450 per month.

The agency also notes that some SSI beneficiaries may receive a supplementary payment from their state, depending on where they live. Check out which states offer this additional money on the SSA website.

When are other Social Security checks paid in July?

You can take a look at the SSA’s full payment schedule for 2025 in this online pdf published by the agency.

Most recipients of retirement, survivor and SSDI benefits will receive their check on one of three Wednesdays in July, depending on their date of birth:

Wednesday payment dates in full: July 2025

Weds., July 9: Recipients born on 1st to 10th
Weds., July 16: Recipients born on 11th to 20th
Weds., July 23: Recipients born on 21st to 31st

The three-Wednesdays schedule does not apply to any Social Security beneficiaries who started claiming retirement, survivor or SSDI pay before May 1997.

These long-term recipients are due to get their money on Thursday, July 3, regardless of their date of birth.

What if you get both SSI and regular Social Security benefits?

If you claim both SSI and any of the retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, you are scheduled to receive the former today and the latter on Thursday.
