These are the top 10 US companies to work for in 2024
Glassdoor released its annual ‘Best Places to Work’ whose results were based on what employees had to say about their companies. Here are the winners…
When seeking out a job, either for the first time or looking for a change, it can help to know what the employees of a company think about their workplace. Since 2009, Glassdoor, which gathers just such information, has been releasing its ‘Best Places to Work’ ranking and the 2024 list is out.
“This year was a whirlwind!” said the San Francisco-based website that allows employees, both current and former, to anonymously review companies to help those seeking to make career decisions. While the priorities of employees haven’t changed much in recent years, the companies at the top of the list shared one common attribute, job security.
This would explain why “the tech industry lost some of its luster,” at the 2024 rankings after a year of extensive layoffs in a number of tech companies. The number in the top 100 dropped to only 31 from 41 last year.
“After a 2023 full of layoff headlines and recession fears, it’s no surprise that large companies offering stability and solid career development opportunities are catching the eye of jobseekers,” lead economist at Glassdoor Daniel Zhao told CNBC. Their loss was others’ gain. “Tech lost some of its luster, and instead you see old-guard industries like consulting and finance make a comeback.”

The Glassdoor 100 Best Places to Work looks at companies with more than 1,000 workers and highlights “companies that excel at creating a positive workplace culture, according to employees.” The data for the awards were collected between October 2022 and October 2023 submitted to the website.
Companies are ranked on a 5-point scale with a score of 1 meaning very dissatisfied, 3 OK and 5 very satisfied. Ratings take into consideration culture & values, diversity & inclusion, the work-life balance, senior management, compensation & benefits and career opportunities. Here’s a look at the winners.
The best companies are already thinking about wooing employees in the future
Besides job security, employees still list career growth opportunities, competitive pay, a supportive environment and transparent leaders as their top priorities according to Zhao. The companies that made it into the top 100 earned their spot by already rethinking their compensation, flexibility and company culture in light of the rise of Gen Z.
While the much talked about recession that never occurred in 2023, the threat of one seems to ever loom on the horizon despite month after month of good economic growth. With that in mind, Zhao said “companies are going to have to figure out how to deliver a top-notch employee experience with a more constrained budget. They can’t woo employees with the same suite of perks and benefits they could two years ago.”
