On Wednesday, Aug. 28, the Social Security Administration is sending another payment to millions of beneficiaries. The agency is in charge of sending benefits to retired workers, survivors, and people affiliated with Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income.

According to the official schedule, Supplemental Security Income payments are sent on the first day of each month. If the first day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, the payment is advanced to the first business day prior.

On the third day of each month, the administration sends money to beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997. If the third day falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are also sent earlier.

The rest of the Social Security checks are sent on Wednesdays, according to the recipients’ date of birth.

According to the Social Security Administration, the average payment for retired workers is just over $1,900 per month. Following the schedule, payment for retirees with birth dates between the 21st and 31st will be sent on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The agency will send a final payment on Friday, Aug. 30. Although SSI beneficiaries have already received their payment for the month, one more will be sent because the September payment is being sent early. Sept. 1 falls on a Sunday.

Because the September payment is being advanced, SSI recipients will no longer receive money in that month. The next payment will be due on Oct. 1.
