Social Security recipients set for new payment this week

Each month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) makes millions of payments to beneficiaries of its various programs, including Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance.

To ensure that payments are made correctly and in an organized manner, the SSA has a distribution schedule based on the recipients’ birth dates. Those born between the 1st and 10th of any month receive their money on the second Wednesday of the following month; those born between the 11th and 20th receive their money on the third; and those born between the 21st and 31st receive their deposit on the last Wednesday of the following month.

Workers who retired before May 1997, as well as SSI recipients, follow a different schedule. Instead of receiving their payment based on their date of birth, they get their checks or deposits during the first days of each month, regardless of when they were born.

How much money am I entitled to receive from Social Security? These are the amounts

The amount of Social Security payments varies depending on a number of factors, such as the number of years of contributions and the age at which the beneficiary decides to begin receiving payments. However, the SSA provides general estimates that serve as a reference for all those seeking to plan their financial future.

In 2024, the average monthly payment for a retired individual is $1,907. For couples filing jointly, the average rises to $3,303. The maximum benefit for SSI is $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples. In August, the average SSI benefit is about $200 lower at $698.51.

These people will receive $1,900 from Social Security on October 23

Taking into account the SSA payment schedule and average estimates, retirees born between the 21st and 31st of any month will receive a payment of $1,900 this Wednesday, October 23, which corresponds to the last payment scheduled for the current month of October.

This is how Social Security payments will increase in 2025

Every year, Social Security payments are adjusted based on the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), which serves to mitigate the effects of inflation and prevent financial losses in the pockets of beneficiaries. In 2024, the COLA was 3.2%, while by 2025 more than 72.5 million people will see a 2.5% increase in their benefits.

Since the increase varies from case to case, it is recommended to add 2.5% to the amount you already receive to get an estimate of your payments for next year.
