These Social Security beneficiaries will receive another payment in May

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive a second payment later this month. Here is when the second payment is coming and why.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) continues to send May payments to beneficiaries of its programs. Retirees, survivors, and beneficiaries of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) have already and will receive their payments per the agency’s monthly routine.

This month, the SSA has already sent out the SSI payments and Social Security benefits to those who started receiving their payments before May 1997 and those born between the 1st and 10th of any month.

For the remaining beneficiaries, the payments will be sent out on Wednesday, May 15th, for those born between the 11th and 20th, and on Wednesday, May 22nd, for those born between the 21st and 31st.

Furthermore, a few beneficiaries will receive a second payment this month.

Double Social Security payment: Who will receive it?

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive an additional payment in May in addition to the one already sent on the first day of the month. SSI benefits are typically sent out on the first day of each month, but payments are sent in advance if the first day falls on a weekend or holiday. As a result, two payments are made in one month. In June, there will be no SSI payment as it is brought forward to May 31st due to June 1st being a Saturday. Therefore, SSI beneficiaries will receive two payments in May but none in June.

This is the complete payment schedule for May and June:

May

  • Wednesday 1° May: SSI Beneficiaries
  • Friday the 3rd: Beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday the 8th: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 1st and the 10th
  • Wednesday the 15th: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and the 20th
  • Wednesday the 22nd: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 21st and the 31st
  • Friday the 31st: SSI beneficiaries (payment corresponding to June)

June

  • Monday, June 3: Beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday the 12th: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 1st and the 10th
  • Tuesday 18: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and 20th (sent on Tuesday because June 19 is the Juneteenth Day holiday)
  • Wednesday the 26th: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 21st and the 31st

How much money is sent from Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?

This year, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits rose to $699.22, but the amounts are higher for younger beneficiaries who do not also receive Social Security, which lowers that average for those of retirement age.

SSI payments are sent via direct deposit or are loaded onto a Direct Express® Debit Mastercard®.
