They gain access to a forgotten garage and stumble upon a historical gem of automotive engineering from 1982
Researchers in Chalon-sur-Saône have uncovered an unused collector car that remained stored away since 1982, preserved in perfect condition both inside and out.
In 1982, a woman went to a dealership in Chalon-sur-Saône, France, carrying all her savings to buy a Renault 5 TL in the color Bleu Schiste. There was just one issue: she did not yet have a driver’s license. As a result, the car was delivered with temporary WWA plates and taken directly to her garage.
When she eventually obtained her license, she realized that driving simply was not for her. Fear took over, and the car remained parked in the garage for what were meant to be just a few days. Those days turned into weeks, and then into decades. In total, the car sat untouched for 43 years.
Recently, the garage door was finally opened, and the people who discovered what was inside were left speechless. They were staring at a factory-new automobile that happened to be 43 years old.
12 Kilometers
The odometer shows just 12 kilometers (less than 7.5 miles), the exact distance from the dealership to the owner’s home. The interior is flawless, and the engine has never truly been run.
This perfectly preserved Renault 5 TL is now set to be offered for sale and auctioned on March 15 by the Aguttes auction house. Collectors are expected to bid significant sums for this extraordinary relic.
It may well be the only Renault 5 in the world in such pristine condition. A woman’s fear of driving decades ago has unexpectedly become the ultimate dream of today’s car collectors.
