“This is great news”: Chilean President José Antonio Kast reacts to the capture of Nicolás Maduro by the United States
The president-elect of Chile used his X account to issue a statement following the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.

President-elect José Antonio Kast used his personal X account on Saturday morning to comment on the capture of Nicolás Maduro by the United States.
“The arrest of Nicolás Maduro is great news for the region. His grip on power, sustained by an illegitimate narco-regime, has forced more than 8 million Venezuelans to leave the country and has destabilised Latin America through drug trafficking and organised crime,” Kast wrote.
He went on to add: “Now a greater task begins. The governments of Latin America must ensure that the entire apparatus of the regime relinquishes power and is held accountable.”
Among the challenges ahead, Kast highlighted the fight against drug trafficking, the safe and swift return of Venezuelans to their country, and support for the restoration of its democratic system.
