Update:

Microsoft is now offering its “Think Deeper” feature to all Copilot users, including free accounts, for free, removing the previous paywall for Copilot Pro subscribers, which costs $20 per month.

Users will be able to gain unlimited access to OpenAI’s o1 model directly within Copilot’s new “Think Deeper” feature.

Microsoft launched Think Deeper as an experimental feature in Copilot Labs in October.

“Great technology experiences are about how you feel, not what’s under the hood. It should be about what you experience, not what we are building,“ the company explained in a press release.

Copilot will be there for you, in your corner, by your side and always strongly aligned with your interests. It understands the context of your life, while safeguarding your privacy, data and security, remembering the details that are most helpful in any situation. It gives you access to a universe of knowledge, simplifying and decluttering the daily barrage of information, and offering support and encouragement when you want it. Over time it’ll adapt to your mannerisms and develop capabilities built around your preferences and needs”.

OpenAI released the o1 model in December, and company chief executive Sam Altman promised that it would be the most powerful model available. There was just one drawback - the price. Subscription to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro costs $200/month.

However, a ChatGPT Plus account which costs $20/month also allows access to the o1 model, but not with unlimited access.

OpenAI feature available to all Copilot users

Last week, Microsoft’s chief of Microsoft AI, Mustafa Suleyman, announced that access to the o1 model would be available to Copilot users everywhere at no cost.

“The possible uses here are really infinite. I’m genuinely so excited that our tens of millions of users are all getting this opportunity. We’ve got so much more in the pipeline right now that I can’t wait to tell you about,” Suleyman explained.

Copilot comes enabled by default in Windows 11 and is accessible via a dedicated icon on the taskbar. If the Copilot icon isn’t visible on your taskbar, you can enable it manually through the settings or via copilot.microsoft.com. You will need to sign in with a Microsoft account.

The “Think Deeper” control in Copilot is essentially a toggle switch which needs to be toggled to on before you enter your query. Copilot appears as a sidebar on the right edge of your screen. It is designed to run alongside your open applications, allowing you to interact with it whenever needed.
