This is the new policy of Sam’s Club stores as of May that will benefit customers
Sam’s Club has implemented a new policy for verifying purchases using a first-of-its-kind application of AI that will make checking out faster.
Sam’s Club customers in the United States received the news that as of May 1, the store’s policies for verifying receipts when leaving the club have been modified at certain locations. This means that this process will soon no longer be necessary at all of its nearly 600 stores nationwide.
The Sam’s Club chain announced that by implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and applying computer vision technology customers will be able to have a friction-free exit experience. In the first quarter of the year, the retailer says that it has successfully rolled out the exit technology to 20% of its locations since it was successfully presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
Clubs will gradually deploy the first-of-its-kind AI technology to the rest of its stores which will allow Sam’s Club customers to walk out of the store without waiting in slow moving queues to review the products the customer purchased whether it is a single item or a full cart. This will provide a “faster and more convenient shopping experience” that members have been asking for.
So far at least 120 locations in the United States have already implemented this technology. According to Sam’s Club it is expected that by the end of 2024 it will be rolled out at the chain’s nearly 600 stores easing a primary pain point in the shopping experience for customers.
New policy a benefit for all Sam’s Club customers
This technology will allow customers to leave the club faster without the need to wait in long lines for Sam’s Club workers to review the purchase receipt to verify the items that were purchased.
“In clubs where the technology has been deployed, more than half of members are getting the friction-free exit experience,” says the retailer. “This translates to all members leaving the club 23% faster.”
“Both exit technology and Scan & Go are driving new levels of convenience and raising member satisfaction among members. What distinguishes Sam’s Club from our competitors is our ability to seamlessly deploy this technology at scale across our nearly 600 clubs nationwide. Whether it’s a single item or a cartful, we’re revolutionizing the checkout experience,” explained Sam’s Club chief product officer Todd Garner.
