During the 92nd annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, rapper and reality TV personality Flavor Flav found himself unexpectedly removed from the backstage area.

In a now deleted post, Flavor Flav explained the situation.

Flav, who was initially invited to the event, was hanging out with the Backstreet Boys in their dressing room when NBC security approached him. According to his own account, security informed him that NBC did not want him in that particular area and requested that he leave.

At the same time, NBC social media representative approached Flav asking to capture social content.

NBC has not publicly commented on the specific circumstances surrounding his removal from the event that already had viewers frustrated with its extended runtime. The tree was ultimately lit at 10 p.m. EST, after performances by various artists including Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and the Backstreet Boys.
