This is what it will cost to process or renew a U.S. passport in 2025: Prices and delivery time

The passport is an important document you need to travel outside the United States, which you can also use as a means of identification in the country.

If you plan to go on an international trip this year, it would be best to apply for or renew your passport soon.

According to usa.gov, to be eligible to apply for an American passport, a person must be a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization or a qualified U.S. non-citizen national.

If you are applying for your passport for the first time, you must do so in person at a passport acceptance center. This process cannot be done online or by mail.

Generally speaking, the items a person needs to apply for a passport for the first time are an application (Form DS-11), personal documents such as original proof of citizenship, an acceptable photo ID and copies of it, a photo, and payment of the fee.

This is what it will cost to process a US passport in 2025

To apply for a U.S. passport for the first time, you must pay the application fee as well as the acceptance fee. First-time passport fees for adults 16 and older will remain the same for 2025 and will be as follows.

Passport prices for children and adolescents under 16 years of age will also remain unchanged for this year.

For passport renewal, a passport book alone costs $130, while renewing a passport card costs just $30. Opting for both will cost $160. When renewing your passport, you do not need to pay the acceptance fee.

If you wish to speed up the processing of your passport, you may pay for expedited service, which costs an extra $60.

American passport delivery times

Processing times are subject to change. Currently, if your passport is approved, routine delivery time is 4-6 weeks and expedited service is 2-3 weeks. This schedule does not include mailing times.

It is best to apply for or renew your passport at least 6 to 9 months in advance to allow enough time to plan your trip.
