On Tuesday night, the VP candidates of both major parties, JD Vance and Tim Walz, will face off in what could be the final debate of the election season.
At this time, no further debates between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have been confirmed, making Tuesday’s vice presidential debate the last major stage each party will have before the November election. With early voting ramping up next week and both campaigns will be looking to make their candidate’s performance a motivator for people to cast their ballots.
Democratic Governor Tim Walz and Republican Senator J.D. Vancewill face off early next week. They have taken each other on during campaign stops, but when face-to-face, will that tone be beneficial? Many voters are turned off by loud debates that devolve into personal fights with little focus on the issues.
As both camps prepare, CBS News, which will host the debate, reported that the Democrats have picked Transporation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to stand in as Senator Vance during prep, while Minnesota Representative Tom Emmer is taking on the role of Governor Walz on the GOP side.
In recent days, as millions are living with the effects of catastrophic storms, neither candidate has posted much about the debate, which can be interpreted as out-of-touch, as nature knows no party.
When will the debate take place?
The debate is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, at 9:00 p.m. ET. CBS and the campaigns have agreed to broadcast it from New York City.

Who will moderate the debate?
Traditionally, the vice presidential debate focuses more on foreign policy, and the moderators selected by CBS reflect that those topics are likely to be discussed. Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan will moderate the event. O’Donnell currently anchors CBS Evening News and is a managing editor, while Brennan moderates Face the Nation and works as a foreign affairs correspondent for the network.
